PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Silver Surfer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and He Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). He Man told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Silver Surfer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, He Man!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Surfer connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Surfer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Surfer scores with a shot to the body.
Surfer bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Man tries to clinch there but Surfer circles away.
Man throws a lazy head kick

and Surfer counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Man is trying to control but can't.
Surfer trying to control the action but Man is working from the bottom.
Surfer working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Surfer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Surfer is keen to just control but Man is a slippery customer.
Man wants to control but Surfer is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Surfer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Surfer is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Man sees it coming and defends easily.

Man keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Surfer trying to mount his opponent but Man defends it.

Surfer is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Man trying to control here.
Man is looking to improve his position.
Surfer prevents Man from standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Surfer is trying to control. Man wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Man is doing well to control the position and prevent Surfer from advancing to side control.
Surfer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Man's head.
Man tries to roll over but Surfer keeps him under control.
Surfer scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Surfer wants to free his trapped foot but Man is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Man trying to hold on to Surfer's head to control him but Surfer postures up.

Surfer seems to be looking for submissions.
Man is trying to maintain the position but Surfer is very close to passing his half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Man can do anything to dispel that myth.

Man wants to improve his position but Surfer is controlling well.
Man is trying to control but can't.
Surfer trying to pass the guard but Man defending well.
Man is looking for a sweep. Surfer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Surfer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Man is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Surfer's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Surfer's back!
Man really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Surfer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Surfer looking very determined here, making life difficult for Man.
Surfer tries to roll but Man sticks to his back.
Surfer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Man is trying to stick to Surfer's back but Surfer is turning into Man. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Man's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Surfer.

Man controls Surfer momentarily but Surfer frees himself.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Man holds on and takes a little breather.
Surfer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Man swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Man is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. He Man was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Man throws a head kick that misses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Man tries to clinch but Surfer moves out of range.

Man has Surfer up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silver Surfer dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Man plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Man throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Man with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Some wild striking there from Man.
Surfer darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Man uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Surfer.
Surfer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Man paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Man jabs Surfer to the body, keeping him at a distance.
He Man seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Surfer walks into a stiff left hand from Man.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Man scores with a push kick.
Man tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Man.
Surfer tries to clinch up but Man circles away and keeps his distance.
Man throws the left hand but Surfer avoids the punch easily.

Man forces Surfer back against the cage and clinches.
Surfer tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Man's elbow.
Surfer dodges an elbow strike from Man.
Surfer tries to throw a body punch but Man avoids it by throwing Surfer back against the cage.
Man stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Man lands with a light punch inside.
Surfer tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Surfer fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Man landing some nice looking knees to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Man lands an elbow just above Surfer 's eye.
Man landing knees to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nice elbow from Man.
Man scores with a shoulder strike.
Man pushes Surfer back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Man lands an elbow inside that Surfer shrugs off.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Man.
Man lands an elbow that stopped Surfer in his tracks for a moment.
Man connects with a nasty looking knee right to Surfer's face.

Man lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
A knee to the head by Man.
Man lands an elbow inside that Surfer shrugs off.

Surfer is rocked!
Man creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Surfer's defenses.
Oh Surfer is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Man lands an uppercut.
A short body shot lands from Man as the two fighters clinch.
Man utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Man working the clinch nicely. Surfer is working for position but Man cracks him with a big knee to the head! Surfer crumples up against the cage and Man lands two more shots before the ref can save Surfer! This one is all over!
