Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Russel Shak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunthor Xiilianiatoph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Gunthor Xiilianiatoph enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Russel Shak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gunthor Xiilianiatoph!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Xiilianiatoph tries to clinch up.
Xiilianiatoph is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Shak counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Shak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Xiilianiatoph swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shak slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Xiilianiatoph is trying to improve his position.

Shak swings around for an armbar but Xiilianiatoph sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Shak's guard.
Xiilianiatoph won't allow Shak to sweep him here.
Shak seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Xiilianiatoph got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shak has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Xiilianiatoph has managed to get both his arms back between Shak's legs - danger averted.

Shak is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Xiilianiatoph defends well.

Xiilianiatoph trying to control the position from guard on top but Shak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shak looking to hit a scissor sweep but Xiilianiatoph is one step ahead there.
Xiilianiatoph looking to sit in guard and control but Shak gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shak gets to his feet. Xiilianiatoph looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Xiilianiatoph gets caught flat footed, as Shak shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Shak decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Xiilianiatoph gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Shak counters with a shoot takedown. Xiilianiatoph fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shak stays in close to Xiilianiatoph's body and controls the position.
Xiilianiatoph is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Xiilianiatoph is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Shak is controlling him.

Shak postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Xiilianiatoph is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shak, into his guard.

Shak working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Xiilianiatoph doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Xiilianiatoph manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xiilianiatoph misses with a takedown

and Shak counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Shak won't allow Xiilianiatoph to sweep him here.
Shak is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Shak decides to stand back up. Shak steps back and let's Xiilianiatoph get back to his feet.

Shak closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Xiilianiatoph did well to prevent Shak getting side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Xiilianiatoph is trying to maintain the position but Shak is very close to passing his half guard.

Shak stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Xiilianiatoph to get to his feet.
Xiilianiatoph fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Xiilianiatoph tries to sprawl but Shak drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Xiilianiatoph tries to get to full guard but Shak has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shak slows the pace down in half guard.

Xiilianiatoph wants to get back to full guard but Shak has mounted him!

Shak stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

and Shak decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Xiilianiatoph's guard.
Russel Shak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gunthor Xiilianiatoph.
Xiilianiatoph is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Xiilianiatoph tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Shak presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We're going to have a standup here because Russel Shak wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Shak closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Shak is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Xiilianiatoph can do to turn this around?

It looks like Gunthor Xiilianiatoph has been cut.
Shak tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Shak lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Shak cracks Xiilianiatoph with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shak jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Xiilianiatoph is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Xiilianiatoph and Shak has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Shak seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Xiilianiatoph for as long as he can get away with.

Shak is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Xiilianiatoph is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Shak decides to stand back up. Shak steps back and let's Xiilianiatoph get back to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shak lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Shak not doing much here.
Shak's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Shak seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Gunthor Xiilianiatoph has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Russel Shak is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shak, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
