PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luke Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timothy Ziff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ziff has chosen Runaway Baby- Bruno Mars as his entrance music. Timothy Ziff struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 266.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Timothy Ziff will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luke Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Timothy Ziff!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ziff avoids it really well and circles away.
Taylor looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Ziff lands a nice shot to the body.

Ziff takes the fight into the clinch.
Ziff stalling the fight.

Ziff manages to pull guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Taylor sitting in guard here, content to control.
Taylor won't allow Ziff to sweep him here.
Ziff is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ziff holds on and takes a little breather.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ziff moves into range and clinches up with Taylor.

Ziff has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Taylor uses from the top position.
Ziff has control of Taylor's left arm, preventing Taylor from doing any damage.
Ziff is looking to stand up but Taylor isn't so interested in that idea.
Taylor seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Taylor is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ziff is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Luke Taylor just wasn't active enough.

Ziff gets a clinch.

Ziff prevents the takedown attempt.
Ziff is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Taylor drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ziff jumps guard and drags Taylor to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Taylor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ziff swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ziff bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Taylor's guard.

Ziff drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ziff jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Ziff stands and steps away. Taylor gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Ziff gets a clinch.
Ziff lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Taylor backwards.
Taylor is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Ziff is trying to trip Taylor. He has hold of a leg but Taylor is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ziff persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Taylor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ziff controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Timothy Ziff was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Ziff throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Taylor tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ziff is in Taylor's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Taylor pulls Ziff in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ziff has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Taylor is proving hard to escape from.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Timothy Ziff dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ziff fails to land the takedown.
Taylor leaves Ziff with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ziff shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Taylor's guard.

Taylor looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Taylor is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ziff stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Taylor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ziff passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Taylor is looking for a sweep.
Taylor is not content to let Ziff control the position.
Ziff really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Taylor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Taylor wants to control but Ziff postures up.
Taylor prevents Ziff from moving into mount.
Ziff is looking to take a break and control but Taylor is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ziff moves into full mount!
Ziff can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Taylor is looking to escape.
Taylor might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Taylor really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Ziff pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Taylor manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Ziff is keen to just control but Taylor is a slippery customer.
Taylor is looking to control Ziff's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Taylor avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Timothy Ziff showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Ziff forces Taylor back against the cage and clinches.
Taylor wants a takedown but no success here.
Ziff drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Taylor gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Ziff's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Ziff scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ziff tries to pass to full mount but Taylor defends it.
Taylor is staying active underneath Ziff, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Taylor won't allow Ziff to pass to mount.
Ziff throwing shots but Taylor is blocking nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Taylor blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ziff.
Ziff wants to pass the guard but Taylor is defending well.
Taylor is trying to control but can't.
Ziff looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Ziff prevents Taylor from improving his position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Taylor tries to keep at a distance but Ziff has taken the fight into the clinch.

Ziff stalling.
Ziff drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Taylor looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Ziff decides to pull guard.
Taylor wants to control from the top but Ziff keeps moving.
Taylor slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Taylor seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ziff for as long as he can get away with.

Luke Taylor has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Ziff lands a leg kick that knocks Taylor off balance momentarily.

Ziff feints and as Taylor raises his hands in defense, Ziff changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Ziff lands a head kick!

Ziff has managed to clinch.

Ziff escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Taylor gets a takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Taylor looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

And that's the end of the fight!
Timothy Ziff comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ziff has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
