PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ultimate Warrior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Shane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Warrior comes to the cage accompanied by Ultimate Warrior Entrance. Shane has chosen Sound of Madness by Shinedown as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ultimate Warrior!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Douglas Shane!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shane shoots in for a takedown but Warrior shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Warrior shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Warrior showed some decent athleticism there.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Warrior is trying to control the action in half guard but Shane is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Shane tries to get to full guard but Warrior has control of the leg.
Warrior keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Warrior thows a huge punch but Shane dodges it nicely.

Warrior seems to be looking for submissions.
Shane trying to hold on to Warrior's head to control him but Warrior postures up.
Warrior missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Shane is looking for a sweep. Warrior is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Shane moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shane is on top in guard.
Warrior trying to control the position.
Shane loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Warrior wants to hit a switch here but Shane passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Warrior there!
Warrior is in all sorts of trouble here.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shane lands a nice short elbow.
Warrior is refusing to be controlled, as Shane sits in half guard.
Warrior is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shane scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Warrior has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shane is working away from the top position though.
Warrior tries to get to full guard but Shane has control of the leg.

Shane has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Shane has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Warrior on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Warrior tries to get out of the position.

Shane has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Warrior's face.

Warrior is wriggling around trying to escape.
Shane tries to control but Warrior wriggling away.
Warrior tries to hold on but Shane pushes him away.

Shane landing strikes from the mount and Warrior is in trouble!
Shane lands a big shot there that rocks Warrior but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Shane controlling the pace for now.
The referee warns Warrior that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Shane dominated that round.
That's time! Warrior's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Shane shoots and misses

and Warrior counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Warrior.
Shane is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Warrior is looking to control Shane's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Warrior avoid being mounted?
Shane is keen to just control but Warrior is a slippery customer.
Warrior has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shane is working away from the top position though.
Douglas Shane has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Shane wants to lay and pray for a moment but Warrior keeps working.

We're going to have a standup here because Ultimate Warrior wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Warrior throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Shane throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Warrior was covering up waiting for the punch and Shane finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Warrior preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Shane wants to control from the top but Warrior keeps moving.
Shane trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Shane pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Warrior is keeping the position for now.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Shane is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Shane tries to free his leg and advance position but Warrior is retaining full guard.
Shane postures up in Warrior's guard and throws a big left but Warrior blocks it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Warrior looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Douglas Shane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shane blocks a head kick by Warrior.

Shane shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shane was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shane can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Warrior is looking to escape.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

BOOM! Shane connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Shane is landing with some decent strikes but Warrior is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Warrior is rocked!
Warrior is squirming around, avoiding Shane's attempts to control the action.
Warrior is trying to escape the mount.
Warrior is bucking up trying to escape but Shane cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Warrior tries to hold on but Shane postures up.
Shane lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Shane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Warrior closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shane circles away.
Warrior will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Shane shoots in looking for a takedown. Warrior tries to sprawl out of it but Shane keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Warrior manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Warrior closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Warrior is pushing Shane up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Warrior tries to pull guard but Shane won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ultimate Warrior. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shane has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Warrior is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Warrior drops down looking for an ankle pick but Shane pulls his leg out and moves away.
Shane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Shane misses with a takedown

and Warrior counters with a crisp one two that drops Shane! Warrior thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Shane to his feet! Shane is in big trouble!
Ultimate Warrior is winning the standup battle so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Warrior closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shane quickly recovers to half guard.
Shane is trying to get back to full guard.
Shane controlling the position for now.
Shane wants to get back to full guard but Warrior has passed into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Warrior is trying to get an arm triangle but Shane is defending well.
Shane manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Shane seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Douglas Shane was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Shane tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Warrior swivels and escapes.
Douglas Shane is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Shane shoots in looking for a takedown but Warrior manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Shane takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Warrior fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shane, pushing him back against the cage.

Warrior breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Shane drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Warrior struggling a bit here.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Shane wants to control but Warrior is keeping him busy.
Warrior wants to control but Shane postures up.
Shane trying to control the action but Warrior is working from the bottom.
Warrior is being controlled here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Warrior is not content to let Shane control the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Shane throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Warrior works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ultimate Warrior showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Shane has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Douglas Shane was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
