PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Troy Slamen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Van Dam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Slamen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Jaws Theme. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Troy Slamen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jean Van Dam!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Dam throws a shot from downtown. Slamen moves away and avoids it.

Van Dam shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Slamen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Van Dam stopping the sweep attempt from Slamen.

Slamen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Van Dam gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Van Dam won't allow Slamen to sweep him here.

Van Dam throws an elbow that misses. Slamen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Van Dam's guard. Nice move by Slamen!

Van Dam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Slamen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Slamen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Van Dam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Slamen manages to get himself to full guard.

Van Dam tries to free his leg and advance position but Slamen is retaining full guard.

Van Dam passes Slamen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Slamen has hold of Van Dam's hands but Van Dam slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Van Dam scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Slamen avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Van Dam.
Van Dam is nestled in close to Slamen, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Van Dam is looking for a kimura but Slamen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Van Dam to get the leverage.

Van Dam is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Slamen regains full guard. Nicely done.
Van Dam wants to pass the guard but Slamen is keeping the position.
Van Dam cracks Slamen with a solid left hand.
Slamen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Slamen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Van Dam stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slamen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Slamen tries to free his leg and advance position but Van Dam is retaining full guard.
Slamen missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Van Dam had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Slamen defends it easily.
Van Dam lands an upkick as Slamen stands over him.
Slamen distracts Van Dam with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Slamen trying to control the position from guard on top but Van Dam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Slamen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jean Van Dam dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Van Dam cracks Slamen with an open hand slap.
Van Dam throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Slamen sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Van Dam throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Slamen misses with a takedown attempt
and Van Dam counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Slamen shoots in but Van Dam avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Slamen blocks a jab.
Slamen shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Troy Slamen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Slamen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Van Dam finds it's way round the side to connect with Slamen's head.
Van Dam tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slamen swivels and escapes.
Slamen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Van Dam counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Van Dam throws a shot from downtown. Slamen moves away and avoids it.

and Van Dam counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Jean Van Dam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Van Dam fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Slamen looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Van Dam throws an overhand right that lands on Slamen's shoulder, as Slamen tries to avoid the shot.
Slamen takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
A jab from Van Dam finds it's way through Slamen's defenses.
Slamen slips a jab from Van Dam.
Van Dam throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Slamen moves forwards but Van Dam connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Slamen tries to clinch there but Van Dam circles away.
Van Dam connects with a good right hand that stumbles Slamen. Slamen circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Van Dam tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Slamen was well out of range. Poor timing from Van Dam.

Van Dam closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Slamen quickly recovers to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Van Dam looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Slamen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Van Dam is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Slamen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Van Dam.

Van Dam is looking to take a break and control but Slamen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Van Dam is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Slamen!

Van Dam connects with a bit shot that sees Slamen covering up! More strikes from Van Dam and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Van Dam is our winner by TKO!

Our winner, Jean Van Dam, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
