The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Palhares is defended easily by Silva.
Silva is looking to clinch but Palhares is avoiding it.
Silva tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Silva fails in his attempt to clinch.
Silva cracks Palhares with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Palhares could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Palhares looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Silva moves out of range of the body kick.
Silva defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Palhares .

Silva drives through and clinches with Palhares against the cage.

Silva gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Silva throws a strike but Palhares rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Silva has his foot on Palhares 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Palhares works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Palhares trying to stand up but can't free himself from Silva's guard.

Palhares tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard.

Palhares decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Silva, up you get!
Silva tries to clinch up.

Palhares tries to sprawl but Silva drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Palhares on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Silva is looking for a kimura but Palhares is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Silva to get the leverage.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Silva in particular looking to stall.
Silva is keen to just control but Palhares is a slippery customer.
Palhares is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Silva scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
