PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Omar Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barn Door (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Torres comes to the cage accompanied by Don Omar feat Tego Calderon - Bandaleros. Barn Door is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Omar Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barn Door!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Door shoots in and drives through. Torres sprawls well.
Door with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Barn Door seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Torres leaves Door with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Torres fails with the takedown.
Door tries to clinch up
and Torres connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Omar Torres has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barn Door.
Torres will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Door takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Door throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Torres counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Torres makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Torres trying to control the position from guard on top but Door is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Door controls Torres momentarily but Torres frees himself.
Door is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Door is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Torres is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Barn Door hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Torres.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Door tries to bench press Torres off him but Torres keeps the position.
Torres throws an elbow but Door slips to the side and avoids it well.

Torres takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Door keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Omar Torres overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Door wants to improve his position but Torres is controlling well.
Torres wants to lay and pray for a moment but Door keeps working.

Torres wants to pass to mount but Door is defending the position.

and Torres counters with a shoot takedown. Door fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Torres stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Door swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Torres is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Door's half guard.
Torres throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Torres thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Door is looking to get back to is feet but Torres passes into side control.

Door wants to control but Torres postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Door is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Torres has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Torres is looking to take a break and control but Door is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Torres is really struggling to control Door but he's trying to hold on to the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Door looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Door wants to clinch up but Torres keeps it at a distance.

Door keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Door uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Torres.

Torres closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Door keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Torres is stalling here. Door is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Torres seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Door has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Door stands up.
Torres moves out of range as Door throws a body kick.

Torres scores with a takedown into Door's guard.

Torres throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Door works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Door keeping moving, preventing Torres from controlling successfully.
Torres looking to sit in guard and control but Door gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Door wants to get up but he can't break Torres's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Omar Torres just wasn't active enough.
Door tries to clinch but Torres moves out of range.
Torres shoots in but Door avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A punch combination from Door misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Torres is defended easily by Door.

Torres darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Barn Door has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Torres is trying to control the action in half guard but Door is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Torres seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Torres, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
