Gomes's entrance music is LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out. A fine choice. Laniyan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Hot tottie. Bruno Gomes could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Felix Laniyan's chin.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Felix Laniyan!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Hirohito Nitta and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes shoots for a double leg takedown but Laniyan sprawls well. He's pushed Gomes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gomes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Laniyan as he avoids it easily.
Gomes looks to clinch

and Laniyan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gomes's guard.
Gomes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gomes is trying to control the position but Laniyan postures up.
Gomes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Laniyan controls the pace.

Laniyan swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gomes is now in Laniyan's guard. A big mistake from Laniyan there, giving up the dominant position!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Laniyan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Laniyan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gomes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Laniyan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Laniyan stands up from half guard.
Gomes shoots in for a takedown but Laniyan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Gomes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Laniyan's guard.

Laniyan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gomes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Laniyan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gomes's guard.

Laniyan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gomes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Laniyan tries to avoid it but Gomes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Laniyan to the ground. Laniyan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Laniyan checks a leg kick.
