PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sal Manella (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manella comes into the arena with Egg blaring out of the sound system. Rafael Pierce told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manella cracks the inside of Pierce's front leg.
Manella connects with a nice looking jab.
Manella throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Manella scores with a spinning back kick!
A solid body kick from Manella.

Manella connects with a right hand. Pierce shakes it off.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pierce.

Pierce tries for a takedown but Manella circles away easily
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Pierce goes for a takedown in the clinch but Manella prevents it.
Manella lands an elbow just above Pierce 's eye.
Manella lands an elbow that stopped Pierce in his tracks for a moment.
Manella creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Pierce's defenses.

It looks like Rafael Pierce has been cut.
Manella lands a body shot in the clinch.
Manella unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Manella is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Manella throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Manella is struggling to control the position.
Manella lands a good knee to the midsection. Pierce won't want to take too many of those.
Pierce tries to score a body lock takedown but Manella shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Pierce has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Manella.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Manella lands an elbow inside that Pierce shrugs off.

Manella unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Manella lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Pierce backwards.
Manella lands a nice elbow.
Manella lands a good knee to the midsection. Pierce won't want to take too many of those.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Sal Manella.

Pierce has a takedown stuffed.
Pierce takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pierce is defended easily by Manella.
Crunch! Manella slams his shin into Pierce's torso.
Manella lands a nice leg kick that just misses Pierce's sensitive parts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Rafael Pierce's cut.
That's time! Manella's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A decent looking cross lands there for Manella.
Manella digs a good body shot into Pierce's ribs.
Pierce tries for a takedown but Manella circles away easily
and Manella counters with a thumping low kick.
Sal Manella is winning the standup battle so far.
Manella wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pierce is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Manella lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Pierce is rocked!
Pierce drops his hands for a split second and Manella immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Pierce face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Manella follows up with a right hand that knocks Pierce into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!
