Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, BJ Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Baroa!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Penn trying to control the position but Baroa is working away.

Penn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Baroa to his feet.
Baroa has his takedown stuffed

and Penn counters by clinching up.

Baroa is fighting off a takedown attempt but Penn is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Baroa to the mat. Baroa regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Baroa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Penn scoring with punches to the head and body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Baroa keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.
Penn working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Baroa wants to sweep but no luck.
Penn wants to stand but Baroa is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Baroa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Penn throwing strikes but missing.
Penn postures up.
Baroa keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.
Penn wants to pass the guard but Baroa is keeping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Baroa misses with a head kick.

Penn clinches up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Penn breaks the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Penn.
Penn working the strikes but Baroa uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Penn is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Baroa defends it well.
Baroa is trying to get back to full guard.
Baroa wants to control but Penn is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Penn is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Penn is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn uses his free foot to push down on Baroa's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Baroa.
Baroa is working to get back to half guard.
Penn wants to take his opponent's back but Baroa doesn't allow it.
The referee warns Baroa that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Penn controlling the position easily from mount.
Penn lands with some strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Penn is landing with some decent strikes but Baroa is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Baroa is looking to improve his position but Penn isn't that keen on the idea.
Penn scores with a couple of good head shots there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Baroa in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Baroa tries to improve his position but Penn has taken his back! Penn has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Baroa tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Penn pushes Baroa away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
