PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Larry Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Narek Sarkisian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powers comes to the cage accompanied by Let's do this now by KoRn. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Larry Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Narek Sarkisian!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sarkisian slips under a jab.
Sarkisian fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sarkisian misses with a hook.
Sarkisian misses with a takedown attempt
and Powers counters with a nice uppercut.
Sarkisian uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Powers.

Powers manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sarkisian on his heels. He'll look to pass Sarkisian's guard now, I'm sure.
Powers seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Powers working some strikes from top position.
Powers passes Sarkisian's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Still in half guard, Powers seems content to control.
Sarkisian moves into full guard.
Sarkisian wants to sweep but no luck.

Powers trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Powers lands a couple of digs.

Sarkisian is trying to keep Powers in close.
Powers cracks Sarkisian with a solid left hand.
Powers is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Powers's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sarkisian throws a sloppy head kick and Powers moves out of range easily.
Sarkisian slips a jab and a cross from Powers.

Sarkisian throws a head kick that misses.
Powers misses with a looping right.
Sarkisian tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Powers paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Powers loads up on a big right hand but Sarkisian slips the punch.
Sarkisian is looking to clinch.

Powers dives in and scores a takedown into Sarkisian's guard.

Powers throws a big elbow that misses.
Powers working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powers is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Powers throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Powers lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Powers stopping the sweep attempt from Sarkisian.
Powers not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Powers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sarkisian for as long as he can get away with.

Powers works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sarkisian is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Powers off and has taken his back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Powers is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Powers avoids the strikes from Sarkisian.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Sarkisian tries to keep at a distance but Powers has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sarkisian jumps guard but Powers turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Sarkisian is trying to drag Powers to the mat but Powers just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Powers is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Powers is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Powers's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Powers scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Larry Powers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Larry Powers just wasn't active enough.

Sarkisian tries to roll over but Powers keeps him under control.

Larry Powers has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Powers thuds his right hand into Sarkisian's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Sarkisian has a takedown stuffed.
Larry Powers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Narek Sarkisian.
Sarkisian is breathing heavily.
Powers ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sarkisian moves away.

Sarkisian will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Powers distracts Sarkisian with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Powers drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Powers jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sarkisian tries to strike from the bottom.
Powers keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sarkisian's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Larry Powers dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sarkisian throws a lazy right hand but Powers sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Powers looks up at the clock and then as Sarkisian takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Powers smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Powers working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Sarkisian takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Powers is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sarkisian will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Powers cracks Sarkisian with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Larry Powers is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Sarkisian is looking to get to half guard.
Powers postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sarkisian looks a forlorn figure.
