The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pontes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mesopyan defends it nicely.
Pontes looks to score with a jab to the body but Mesopyan is just out of range.
Pontes dives in and grabs Mesopyan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mesopyan pushes down on Pontes's head and hops out.

Pontes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mesopyan to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
