PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chancho Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has chosen Method Man- I came to bring the pain as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jackson Briggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chancho Smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Smith with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Briggs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.
Smith with a flurry of punches that miss.

Smith advances to half guard.
Smith not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Smith thows a huge punch but Briggs dodges it nicely.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Briggs is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Smith sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Briggs is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Smith creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Briggs, who protects the arm well.
The ground and pound from Smith seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
You can see the frustration on Briggs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Smith prevents Briggs from escaping the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Briggs is defending well.
Smith has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Smith goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Briggs is on top in guard.
Smith throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Smith looking for subs off his back but Briggs has passed one foot through into half guard.
Briggs blocks the strikes from Smith.
Briggs tries to stand and escape but Smith is controlling the position.
Smith tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Briggs has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Briggs trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Smith is looking to get to half guard.
Briggs lands a nice shot to the head.
Smith is arching his back trying to strike from the bottom but Briggs turns him over and now has his back.
Smith tries to break free.

Briggs is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Smith has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Briggs doesn't have the hooks in and Smith manages to turn into his guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chancho Smith dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Smith shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Briggs is trying to defend but Smith finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Smith thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Briggs is looking to control Smith's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Briggs avoid being mounted?

Chancho Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smith sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Briggs defending well though.
Briggs tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.

Smith is working for a submission of some sort.

Briggs on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Briggs keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Smith throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Briggs to regain full guard.
Briggs keeping full guard, as Smith tries to pass.
Smith is working Briggs over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Smith's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Smith has gone for a leg lock! Briggs slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smith's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Briggs escapes and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith is looking for a sweep.

Smith throws a punch from the bottom, which has left him a bit exposed here… Briggs has an arm triangle now. This could be big trouble for Smith. He's out! He's out cold! The ref pulls Briggs off and Briggs celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jackson Briggs!
