PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh McGuire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Draven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Eric Draven enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh McGuire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eric Draven!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGuire tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Draven lands a left and a right that send McGuire crashing to the mat, dazed. Draven thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


McGuire is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McGuire fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Draven sprawls well initially but McGuire persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
McGuire works his foot free and advances to mount.
Draven wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Draven covers up after that shot from McGuire.
Draven rolls, trying to escape but McGuire keeps control of the position.
McGuire could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
McGuire lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by McGuire.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGuire is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. McGuire gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. McGuire gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. McGuire apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Draven displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McGuire.

McGuire clinches with his opponent.
McGuire has Draven pressed against the cage, preventing Draven from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

McGuire jumps guard.
McGuire is trying to keep Draven in close.
Draven not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGuire tries to land a sweep but no joy.
McGuire pulls Draven in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Eric Draven was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Draven displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
McGuire is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGuire avoids the head kick by Draven.
Draven stuffs the takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Draven tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

McGuire feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McGuire pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Draven is keeping the position for now.
Draven utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McGuire sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Josh McGuire.
Draven connects with an inside leg kick.

Draven lands a big head kick that sends McGuire tumbling to the mat! Draven takes a step backwards and waves McGuire back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Oh McGuire is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!


It looks like Josh McGuire has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Draven lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. McGuire is looking to close the distance but Draven sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! McGuire crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope McGuire is OK because that was naaaaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Knee). Eric Draven!
During a confident post fight interview, Eric Draven thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
