PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Baki Hanma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Markakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Baki Hanma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis Markakis!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanma fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Markakis throws a right and a left that both miss.
Markakis has his takedown stuffed

and Hanma counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hanma.

Hanma thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Markakis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Markakis keeping full guard, as Hanma tries to pass.
Hanma might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Markakis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hanma stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Markakis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hanma accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hanma drops back looking for a leg! Markakis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Markakis manages to kick Hanma off! Hanma jumps back into Markakis's guard.
Hanma is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Markakis looking to control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Markakis misses with the combination.

Markakis has Hanma up against the cage in a clinch.
Hanma lands a left hand that snaps the head of Markakis backwards.
Markakis can't break the clinch.
Markakis tries for a takedown but Hanma manages to get underhooks.
Markakis is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Hanma lands a left hand that snaps the head of Markakis backwards.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Markakis trying to stall but Hanma improves his position.
Hanma can't get the takedown.
Markakis jumps guard but Hanma stands there with Markakis around his waist. Markakis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Baki Hanma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dennis Markakis.

Hanma wants the takedown. Markakis is fighting it off but Hanma persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Markakis's guard against the cage.

Markakis is looking to stand up but Hanma isn't so interested in that idea.
Hanma stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Markakis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hanma stands and throws Markakis's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Markakis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hanma. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Markakis on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Hanma tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hanma has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hanma is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Markakis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hanma has hold of Markakis's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Markakis seems comfortable defending it but Hanma has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Markakis is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Markakis is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Hanma couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Baki Hanma!
