PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Raoul Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Arias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arias has chosen Don Omar - Conteo as his entrance music. David Arias struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 147.7lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raoul Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Arias!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duke scores with a leg kick.
Arias looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Duke lands a body shot.
A head kick lands from Duke that sends Arias to the canvas. Arias tries to scramble back to his feet but Duke brings him back down into side control.


It looks like David Arias has been cut.

Duke is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Arias has escaped the position, nice work there.
Arias on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Arias takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Duke shoots in and drives through. Arias sprawls well.
Arias moves in looking to clinch but Duke pushes him off.
Both fighters circling a little - Duke finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Duke throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Duke tries to clinch up but Arias circles away and keeps his distance.

Arias takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Arias misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

A head kick from Duke lands but Arias takes it in his stride.
Duke looks to land a body kick but Arias moved away.
Duke swats away the attempt to clinch by Arias.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Arias with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Duke will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Arias doesn't manage to clinch there - Duke circles away.
Duke throws a nice outside leg kick.

Duke keeps control of Arias as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Duke has Arias pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Duke pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Arias tumbling to the mat - Duke dives into Arias's guard.
Duke stands and throws Arias's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Arias is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Duke off and has taken his back!
Arias is trying to stick to Duke's back but Duke is turning into Arias. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Arias's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Duke.

Arias working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Duke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Duke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Duke is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Arias lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Arias is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Duke bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Arias's guard.
Duke pushes down on Arias's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Duke is pressing down on Arias's thigh, looking to free his foot. Arias is holding on for now.
David Arias has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Raoul Duke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well Duke has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
