Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frank Whyte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Forrewt Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Vladimir Khabensky and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whyte lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Whyte tries to clinch up.
Griffin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Whyte lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Griffin backs up against the cage.

and Whyte counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Griffin is trying to stand up here but Whyte is controlling him well.

Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Griffin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Whyte gets underhooks to prevent Griffin's takedown attempt.

Whyte breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Griffin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Whyte gets a clinch.

Whyte manages to break the clinch.

Whyte keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Whyte wants to clinch.
Griffin shoots in but Whyte avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Whyte rushes Griffin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Griffin goes for a takedown attempt but Whyte pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Griffin shoots and misses

and Whyte holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Whyte takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Whyte has picked Griffin up - he's going for a ride! Whyte dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Griffin is trying to escape back to his feet but Whyte uses the scramble to pass into side control.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Whyte cracks Griffin with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Whyte knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Griffin on the ground.
Griffin wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Whyte is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Griffin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Whyte thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Griffin is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Whyte has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffin on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Whyte tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Whyte has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Griffin is pushing Whyte's head away, looking to escape. Whyte manages to hold on to the position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Whyte looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Griffin gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Whyte counters with a three punch combo that has Griffin backing up. Griffin nods at Whyte to acknowledge the strikes.

and Whyte counters with a good low kick that Griffin was not able to check.

Whyte shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Griffin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whyte is just riding it out for now. Griffin eventually gives up the hold.

Griffin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Whyte looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Whyte looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Whyte!
Whyte happy to just control the position for now.
Griffin tries to escape but Whyte is in control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Griffin explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Griffin tries to score a body lock takedown but Whyte shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Griffin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Whyte pulls his leg out and moves away.

Whyte manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Griffin on his heels. He'll look to pass Griffin's guard now, I'm sure.
Whyte is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
