The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
VIck will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
VIck defending well as Thompson loads up on a big left hand.
A right-left combo lands from Thompson.
Nice takedown defense from Thompson. No joy for VIck on that attempt.
The fighters circling - Thompson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
VIck is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rodney Thompson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James VIck.
VIck misses with a takedown attempt - Thompson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Thompson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by VIck.
Thompson throws a hook to the side of VIck's head but VIck sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

VIck uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thompson.
Thompson is really struggling to find his range with his punches. VIck's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Thompson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but VIck moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Thompson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Thompson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rodney Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
VIck moves away from the strike by Thompson.
The fight stays on the outside here - VIck looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and VIck counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by VIck.
VIck stalling.
VIck wants a takedown but no success here.
VIck scores with an uppercut up the middle.
VIck jumps guard but Thompson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Thompson is pressed up against the cage. VIck has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thompson down to the mat. Thompson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
VIck closes this distance looking for a takedown but Thompson circles away.

VIck tries to clinch there but Thompson circles away.
VIck misses with a head kick.
Thompson misses with an uppercut.
Thompson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thompson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but VIck moves away.
No luck for VIck with that takedown attempt.
VIck wants to clinch but Thompson slips to the side
and Thompson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Thompson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by VIck.
VIck tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
VIck ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Thompson lands a jab to VIck's midsection.
Thompson lands with a hook. VIck tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
VIck slips a jab from Thompson.
VIck is trying desperately to land a takedown but Thompson is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for VIck.

Thompson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Thompson throws a hook to the side of VIck's head but VIck sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Thompson misses with a series of wild punches.
Thompson moves out of range as VIck throws a body kick.
Thompson misses with a double jab
and VIck counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Thompson lands a left and a right that send VIck crashing to the mat, dazed. Thompson thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

VIck is rocked!
and Thompson counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts VIck! He's just covering up as Thompson starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

A relieved looking Rodney Thompson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
