Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cray Vasil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamie Lanastar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jamie Lanastar has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Cray Vasil's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cray Vasil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jamie Lanastar!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasil shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lanastar pinned against the cage. Lanastar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nice takedown defense from Lanastar. No joy for Vasil on that attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vasil is defended easily by Lanastar.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cray Vasil. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lanastar wants to stand and escape but instead Vasil has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Vasil connects with a couple of short punches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vasil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lanastar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vasil wants to control from the top but Lanastar keeps moving.

Lanastar wants to get back to his feet but Vasil is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Lanastar is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Lanastar has a closed guard, preventing Vasil from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Cray Vasil just wasn't active enough.

Vasil forces Lanastar back against the cage and clinches.
Lanastar drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lanastar is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Vasil to keep the fight standing.

Vasil is trying to drag Lanastar to the mat but Lanastar just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Vasil's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lanastar works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Lanastar misses with a hook. Vasil ducked under it nicely.
Lanastar throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Vasil.

Vasil fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lanastar avoids it really well and circles away.

Lanastar is pressed up against the cage. Vasil has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lanastar down to the mat. Lanastar avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Vasil has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Lanastar after a bit of a struggle.
Vasil is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Jamie Lanastar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Vasil misses with a few strikes there.
Vasil throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lanastar's waist but Lanastar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vasil off to one side.

Lanastar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vasil. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Vasil dodges the punch combination from Lanastar.
Lanastar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vasil paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cray Vasil overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vasil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lanastar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vasil prevents Lanastar from getting back to his feet.

Vasil thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
