A fine choice. Franco has chosen Born Slippy as his entrance music. Sepp Maier has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franco throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Maier misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Franco keeps the fight on the outside.
Franco displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maier.
Maier takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Maier shoots in looking for a takedown but Franco manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Maier's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Franco has Maier pressed against the cage, preventing Maier from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Maier throws a knee to the head but misses.
Maier pushes Franco back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Franco breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Maier dives in and scores a takedown into Franco's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Franco has his feet on Maier's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Franco stuffs the takedown attempt from Maier. Maier gets slowly back to his feet.

Maier is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Franco is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Franco has escaped and now he's on top!
Maier has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Franco decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Maier, up you get!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Sepp Maier will probably get the nod.

Franco throws a sloppy head kick and Maier moves out of range easily.
Oh Maier is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Maier throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Franco's waist but Franco gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maier off to one side.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Franco throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Maier is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!
