PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mirko Mirinda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ray White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mirko Mirinda!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from White. Those never looked like landing.

White scores with a takedown into Mirinda's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Mirinda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mirinda has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. White is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mirinda.

White wants to control his opponent's hands but Mirinda gets his hands free.
Mirinda trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure White doesn't escape.
Mirinda should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Let's hope that Mirinda has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

and Mirinda counters with a single leg into guard. White didn't expect that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
White wants to get back to his feet but Mirinda is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

White had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mirinda defends it easily.

White is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

White escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mirinda gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
White wants to sweep here but Mirinda controlling him for the moment.
White doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mirko Mirinda will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


White changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
White fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Mirinda looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Mirinda thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
White wants to stand and escape but Mirinda is having none of it.

We're going to have a standup here because Ray White wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mirinda shoots in but no luck this time.
Mirinda tries to score a power double leg takedown but White sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mirinda somewhat.

Mirinda is breathing heavily.
A frustrated look appears on White's face as he tries to break the clinch.
White tries to throw a body punch but Mirinda avoids it by throwing White back against the cage.

White pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
White shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mirinda but Mirinda pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ray White is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

White throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mirinda's waist but Mirinda gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing White off to one side.

White misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
White shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mirinda as he jumps to the side.
Mirinda swats away the attempt to clinch by White.

Mirinda is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mirinda wants to pass the guard but White is keeping the position.
White is wriggling around but Mirinda manages to pass to half guard.

Mirinda seems to be looking for submissions.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

White wants to hold on but Mirinda pushes him away.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mirinda in particular looking to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mirko Mirinda.
White lands a really nice looking cross but Mirinda seems unphased.
Mirinda shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts White as he jumps to the side.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from White.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
White shoots in looking for a takedown but Mirinda manages to keep the fight standing, pushing White's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
White fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ray White has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mirko Mirinda is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
No joy there for White, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mirko Mirinda.
I've got Mirinda winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
