The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ranallo instigates a clinch.
Giacomucci is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ranallo is defending well.

Ranallo misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Ranallo lands a body punch in the clinch.
Ranallo lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Giacomucci.
Ranallo cracks Giacomucci with a nice body shot.
Giacomucci goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ranallo prevents it.
Ranallo lands with a right to the head.
Ranallo works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Ranallo prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Giuseppe Giacomucci. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Giacomucci has Ranallo pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ranallo manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Giacomucci has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ranallo after a bit of a struggle.

Giacomucci is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ranallo can't fight it off and eventually Giacomucci manages to take the fight to the floor. Ranallo looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ranallo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Giacomucci wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ranallo takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Ranallo is looking to regain half guard here but Giacomucci keeps moving and retains side control.

Ranallo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Giacomucci. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Giacomucci works to advance to full mount. Ranallo defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Giacomucci has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Giacomucci takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ranallo is rocked!
Giacomucci scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Ranallo is still in real trouble! Can Giacomucci finish him?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Giacomucci pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Giacomucci loads up with a big shot that hurts Ranallo! He's pulled Giacomucci in close but Giacomucci has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Ranallo survive? More strikes from Giacomucci and Ranallo is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
