PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Routine Maintenance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drake is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: War is my Destiny. Damian Drake told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damian Drake!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Maintenance. Drake does a little dance to reset his feet.
Drake avoids the body shot from Maintenance.

Drake rushes Maintenance and presses him up against the cage.
Drake looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Drake can't break the clinch.

Maintenance dives in and grabs Drake's left leg, looking for a takedown. Drake pushes down on Maintenance's head and hops out.

Maintenance shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Maintenance was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

and Maintenance counters with a left to the body.
Drake throws a right and a left that Maintenance avoids nicely.

Maintenance fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Drake avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Routine Maintenance. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maintenance is defended easily by Drake.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Maintenance fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Drake to the ground. Maintenance is now in Drake's guard.

Drake scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Maintenance manages to mount him!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Maintenance fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Maintenance has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Drake's face.

Routine Maintenance overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Maintenance cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Maintenance wants to clinch.

Drake is rocked!

Maintenance lands a huge takedown. Drake is out but the ref is slow to react and Maintenance lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Drake lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.
