PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kane Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Ashworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kane Lucas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Ashworth!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Ashworth as Lucas shoots in.
Lucas misses with a head kick.
Lucas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ashworth but Ashworth pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Lucas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kane Lucas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lucas gets caught flat footed, as Ashworth shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ashworth postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ashworth stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lucas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lucas throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ashworth uses it to pass to side control.
Ashworth tries to advance to mount but Lucas denies him.

Ashworth decides to stand up, so the ref orders Lucas to his feet.
Lucas pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Lucas.

Ashworth scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Lucas is breathing heavily.
Ashworth trying to control the action but Lucas is working from the bottom.

Ashworth tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Ashworth tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lucas tries to buck Ashworth off but Ashworth is having none of it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lucas lands a high kick!
Lucas shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ashworth counters with a good low kick that Lucas was not able to check.
Ashworth scores with a one two! Lucas had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Lucas lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Lucas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ashworth sprawls well initially but Lucas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lucas lands a nice short elbow.
Ashworth is trying to maintain the position but Lucas is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ashworth wants to sweep but Lucas has passed to side control!
Ashworth is trying to work for a sweep but Lucas has mounted him!
Ashworth tries to lock up and control but Lucas gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Ashworth wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

You can see the frustration on Ashworth's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Ashworth covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

Lucas is looking for a rear naked choke here but Ashworth reverses the position brilliantly into Lucas's guard!
Lucas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ashworth must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ashworth pushes down on Lucas's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Lucas looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ashworth is one step ahead there.

Ashworth lands a couple of decent looking shots.

A close round but Pete Ashworth will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Lucas doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ashworth counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lucas's guard now.
Ashworth works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Ashworth frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Ashworth looking for a guillotine from mount but Lucas is having none of it.
Ashworth prevents Lucas from getting the reversal.
Lucas wants to hold on but Ashworth pushes him away.

Ashworth working for a submission but Lucas is keeping him at bay.
Ashworth throwing strikes but Lucas recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ashworth is pressing down on Lucas's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lucas is holding on for now.
Lucas lands a couple of sideways elbows.
Lucas moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Ashworth is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lucas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lucas has escaped and now he's on top!

Ashworth looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Lucas has picked Ashworth up and slammed him! Ashworth can't keep hold of the triangle and Lucas manages to pass to side control!

Lucas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ashworth knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Lucas uses his free foot to push down on Ashworth's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ashworth.
Ashworth is squirming around, avoiding Lucas's attempts to control the action.
Ashworth is looking to improve his position but Lucas isn't that keen on the idea.

Lucas is really struggling to control Ashworth but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Ashworth is trying desperately to improve position.

Lucas gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Ashworth is posturing up here but Lucas has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Ashworth tries to roll out but it's too tight and Ashworth has to tap! Slick submission there by Lucas!
