The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pearson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Pearson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pearson wants to stand up but Exley is controlling the position.
Exley wants to control but Pearson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Exley controlling the position well.
Exley makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Exley.
Pearson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Exley is proving hard to escape from.
Exley wants to improve his position but instead Pearson has moved into half guard.

Exley tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Pearson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Exley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Pearson wants to get up but he can't break Exley's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Exley has his foot on Pearson 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pearson works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Pearson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Exley as he jumps to the side.
Pearson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Exley swivels and escapes.

and Pearson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Pearson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Exley's hands.

Pearson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Pearson wants to get back to his feet but Exley is holding on tight.

Exley gets back to half guard.
Exley is looking to control Pearson 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Exley avoid being mounted?
Exley slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Exley wants to sweep but no luck.
Exley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Exley in particular looking to stall.
Exley moves nicely into side control.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Exley is working to tighten is grip on Pearson 's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Pearson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Exley is really squeezing tight and eventually Pearson passes out! Exley breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
