PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thiang Puruhat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Storm has chosen ThunderStruck as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thiang Puruhat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Storm!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Storm fails with an attempt to clinch.
Puruhat throws a leg kick which misses Storm's front leg but catches the back leg as Storm tries to avoid it.
Puruhat pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Puruhat thows a left - swing and a miss!
Puruhat leaves Storm with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Puruhat lands with a thumping leg kick.
Puruhat thows a body shot but no joy.
Puruhat lets loose with a powerful body kick. Storm will feel that in the morning.

Puruhat clinches with his opponent.
Puruhat is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Storm avoiding damage as Puruhat throws knees to the body.
Storm drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Puruhat looking to throw knees to the head but Storm is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Puruhat misses with a knee to the head.
Puruhat with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Storm gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Puruhat regains full guard. Nicely done.
Puruhat has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Storm has passed into side control.

Storm wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Puruhat, who protects the arm well.
Puruhat sneaks back into half guard.
Puruhat makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Puruhat.
Puruhat looking for a sweep. Not yet Puruhat, not yet.
Storm must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Puruhat is looking for a triangle but Storm pushes his legs off easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Puruhat keeping full guard, as Storm tries to pass.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Storm working some strikes from top position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Puruhat is on top in guard.
Storm is trying to keep Puruhat in close.
Puruhat trying to control but Storm is working from the bottom.

Storm working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Puruhat has passed into half guard!
Storm is refusing to be controlled, as Puruhat sits in half guard.
Storm trying to control but Puruhat postures up.
Storm is looking for a sweep. Puruhat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Storm trying to control from the bottom.
Puruhat moves nicely into side control.
Puruhat is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Puruhat goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Storm has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Puruhat but great work by Storm.

Storm tries for a kimura but Puruhat is defending well.

Storm thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Storm is trying to get an arm triangle but Puruhat is defending well.

Storm is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Puruhat has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Storm wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Puruhat, who protects the arm well.
Puruhat is looking to regain half guard here but Storm keeps moving and retains side control.

Storm tries for a kimura but Puruhat is defending well.
Puruhat is looking to reverse the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Storm passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Puruhat!
Puruhat regains half guard.
Puruhat wants to improve his position but Storm is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thiang Puruhat dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Storm dives in and scores a takedown into Puruhat's guard.
Puruhat lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Storm!
Storm is working to get back to half guard.
Puruhat wants to take Storm's back but he can't do it this time.
Storm wants to control but Puruhat is having none of it.
Storm really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Jim Storm has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Puruhat cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Puruhat looking to secure an arm triangle but Storm defends it well.

Puruhat with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Storm really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Storm regains half guard.
Puruhat seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Storm does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Puruhat seems to be working for a kimura but Storm defends the submission attempt.
Storm is trying to maintain the position but Puruhat is very close to passing his half guard.
Storm wants to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Puruhat wants to advance to full mount but Storm doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Puruhat is posturing up here but Storm has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Puruhat tries to roll out but it's too tight and Puruhat has to tap! Slick submission there by Storm!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jim Storm!
Jim Storm really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Vandal Fight Boutique (prices $8 - $30) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
