The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Washington tries to clinch but Gunnarson moves out of range.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Poor strikes thrown by Washington there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Washington connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Washington controlling the pace for now.
Washington seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gunnarson for as long as he can get away with.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Washington looks for the body kick but Gunnarson saw that one coming.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gunnarson is defended easily by Washington.
Gunnarson shoots in looking for a takedown. Washington tries to sprawl out of it but Gunnarson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Washington manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gunnarson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Washington as he avoids it easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Washington cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Gunnarson is desperately trying to improve his position but Washington has a good base and remains in mount.

Washington quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Washington but it's paid off an Gunnarson is forced to tap! Nice work by Washington.
