PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank Romo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dante Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kane doesn't manage to clinch there - Romo circles away.

Kane instigates a clinch.
Romo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kane's efforts to push away.
Kane is pushing Romo up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Kane doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Kane throws a punch but it's blocked by Romo.

Romo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Romo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Romo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kane wants to clinch up but Romo keeps it at a distance.
Romo pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Kane back to the cage. Romo follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Frank Romo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kane bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Romo fails to land with a series of punches.

Kane gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Romo lands with a left to the head.
Romo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kane has him pressed against the cage.
Kane can't break the clinch.
Kane drops down looking for an ankle pick but Romo pulls his leg out and moves away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Kane counters with a nice kick to the body.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Kane tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Nice straight punches there by Romo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Romo.

Romo cracks Kane with a right hand to the side of the head.

Romo tries to keep at a distance but Kane has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kane lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Kane escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kane misses with a head kick.

Kane gets a clinch.
Kane can't break the clinch.
Kane has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Romo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kane's efforts to push away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Romo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Romo moves in looking to clinch but Kane pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dante Kane will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Kane keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Romo fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
A combination from Romo does no damage.
Kane lands a jab-cross combination.
Kane is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Romo.
Romo cracks Kane with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kane doesn't manage to clinch there - Romo circles away.
Kane wants to clinch up but Romo keeps it at a distance.

Kane closes the distance and pushes Romo back into the cage.

Romo wants the takedown. Kane is fighting it off but Romo persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kane's guard against the cage.

Kane is striking but Romo is not phased and passes to half guard.
Kane wants to get back to full guard.

Romo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kane defends it well.
Kane wants to control the action here but instead Romo manages to pass to full mount!
Kane is desperately trying to improve his position but Romo has a good base and remains in mount.
Romo throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Romo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Kane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Romo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Romo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Romo postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Kane out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Romo goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!
