PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kalle Schwensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Babcock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kalle Schwensen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kalle Schwensen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce Babcock!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babcock looks to land a left hand but Schwensen moved out of range nicely.
Schwensen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Babcock lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Schwensen has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Schwensen and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Schwensen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Babcock manages to avoid it.

Babcock gets caught napping as Schwensen dives in and scores a takedown. Babcock manages to retain guard.
Babcock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Babcock seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Schwensen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Babcock is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Babcock trying to keep a closed guard but Schwensen is proving a slippery customer.

Schwensen tries to free his leg and advance position but Babcock is retaining full guard.

Schwensen drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Babcock dives on top into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Babcock wants to control from the top but Schwensen keeps moving.

Babcock won't allow Schwensen to sweep him here.
Babcock wants to pass the guard but Schwensen is keeping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Schwensen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Babcock defends it nicely.

Babcock feints a jab promting Schwensen to slip. Babcock then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Schwensen slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Schwensen closes the distance and clinches up with Babcock, looking for a takedown. Schwensen pushes Babcock against the cage but Babcock circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Babcock lands a nice shot that snaps Schwensen's head back.

Schwensen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Schwensen is stalling here. Babcock is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Schwensen seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Babcock has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Schwensen is trying to control Babcock's posture but Babcock avoids it.
Schwensen is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Babcock off and has taken his back!
Babcock has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

What can Babcock do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Schwensen throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Babcock breaks Schwensen's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Schwensen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Schwensen tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Schwensen has his foot on Babcock's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Babcock works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Babcock stands and throws Schwensen's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Babcock tries to advance to mount but can't.

Babcock works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Schwensen tries to improve position but can't.
Babcock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Schwensen keeps working.
Babcock is working Schwensen over with some ground and pound from side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Schwensen tries to bench press Babcock off him but Babcock keeps the position.
Babcock lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Babcock trying to control the action but Schwensen is working from the bottom.
Schwensen wants to control but Babcock postures up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Babcock looks up at the clock and then as Schwensen takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Babcock smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Babcock working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Babcock dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Babcock tried to score with a low kick but Schwensen checks it.
Babcock punishes Schwensen's body with a nice straight punch.
Babcock misses with a wild body shot.
Babcock scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Babcock fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Schwensen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Babcock sprawls well. Babcock wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Schwensen gets slowly back to his feet.

Schwensen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Babcock as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kalle Schwensen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Schwensen ducks under a wild hook from Babcock.
Schwensen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Babcock throws out the jab.
Babcock clobbers Schwensen with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Schwensen misses with an uppercut. Babcock saw that one coming.
Babcock jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Babcock comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Schwensen takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Schwensen shoots for a takedown but Babcock saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Schwensen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jab, jab by Babcock - just one landing.
Schwensen throws a looping overhand right but Babcock ducks down to avoid it.
Schwensen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Babcock.
Babcock is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Schwensen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The crowd cheers as Babcock lands an impressive looking overhand right. Schwensen doesn't seem phased though.
Babcock lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Schwensen circles away quickly and effectively.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Schwensen feints and as Babcock raises his hands in defense, Schwensen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Babcock is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Schwensen's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Schwensen throwing strikes from guard but Babcock blocks nicely.
Schwensen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Babcock is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Schwensen is trying to control but Babcock manages to pass to mount!

Schwensen is squirming around, avoiding Babcock's attempts to control the action.
Babcock working the ground and pound effectively.
Babcock unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Schwensen wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Babcock celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bruce Babcock!
A relieved looking Bruce Babcock thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
