Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bingo Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dave Geerts!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steel moves into the clinch successfully.
Geerts is trying to push Steel away but Steel has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Geerts looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Geerts breaks from the clinch.

Steel closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Steel pulls guard successfully.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Steel has an active guard here but Geerts has managed to pass into half guard.

Geerts slips a nice elbow through Steel's hands, connecting with Steel's forehead.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Steel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Steel throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Geerts was covering up waiting for the punch and Steel finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Geerts can do anything to dispel that myth.

Geerts is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
This has been an exciting period of action!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dave Geerts hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Steel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Geerts was well out of range. Poor timing from Steel.

Steel shoots in but Geerts avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Steel looks for a takedown but Geerts sprawls well.
Steel looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Steel clinches up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Steel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Geerts walks away with a smile on his face. Steel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Steel is trying to maintain a safe position but Geerts gets an underhook and turns Steel into the cage.

Geerts must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Steel is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Geerts is controlling him.

Geerts working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Steel's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Geerts slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Dave Geerts has got the better of the ground game so far.
Geerts throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Geerts is looking for a kimura but Steel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Geerts to get the leverage.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Let's hope that Geerts has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Steel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Bingo Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Steel.

Dave Geerts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Geerts keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Steel tries to bum rush Geerts with a series of wild strikes but Geerts uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Geerts closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Geerts postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Geerts feints and then cracks Steel's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Steel down.

Geerts closes the distance and clinches.

Geerts breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Steel shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Geerts sprawls well. Geerts wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Steel gets slowly back to his feet.
Steel tries for a takedown but Geerts sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Geerts throws a monster overhand right that drops Steel! Geerts follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
