PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Turrett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Turrett comes to the cage accompanied by Criticize. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Turrett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, John Clark!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Clark scores a takedown into full mount!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Turrett is working to get back to half guard.
You get the feeling that Turrett really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Turrett throwing hammer fists to the chest of Clark. What's that going to do exactly?
Clark trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Turrett is desperately trying to improve his position but Clark has a good base and remains in mount.
Clark really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Turrett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Clark wants to lay and pray for a moment but Turrett keeps working.
Clark looks to land a strike but Turrett avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Turrett tries to land a sweep but no joy.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Clark hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Turrett throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Clark's waist but Clark gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Turrett off to one side.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Turrett.
John Clark seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Clark wants to clinch.

Turrett shoots for a double leg takedown but Clark sprawls well. He's pushed Turrett's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Turrett. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Turrett decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Turrett is keen to just control but Clark is a slippery customer.

Clark swings around for an armbar but Turrett sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Clark's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Paul Turrett wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Turrett shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Clark pinned against the cage. Clark gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Clark closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Clark throws a strike but Turrett avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Clark must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Turrett has his foot on Clark's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Clark works his way back into a safe position though.

Clark postures up and lands a big shot to Turrett's brow.

Turrett had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Clark defends it easily.

Clark wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Turrett's closed guard. He's half up but Turrett has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Turrett pivots and extends the arm, Clark falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Turrett! Well done that man!

Paul Turrett decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
