PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kauko Partio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Partio comes to the cage accompanied by Popeda - Mä elän vieläkin. Black has chosen yes as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black with a hook.
Black scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Partio doesn't seem bothered though.
Partio scores with a nice right hand.
Partio misses with an attempted mid kick.
A swing and a miss from Black.
Partio wants to slow Black down by chopping away at his legs.
Partio throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Black throws a poor cross that misses
and Partio counters with an inside leg kick.
Black lands with a straight right. Partio didn't see that one coming.
Partio missing with a left hand there. Black was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Black throws a low kick but it's checked well by Partio.
Black has closed the distance and engaged Partio in a clinch.

Black goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Black misses with the head strike.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Partio.
Black swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Partio looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Partio breaks from the clinch.
Partio closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Black is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Black trying to keep a closed guard but Partio is proving a slippery customer.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Partio's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Black escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Partio gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Black is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Partio drops back looking for a leg! Black is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Black manages to kick Partio off! Partio jumps back into Black's guard.
Partio tries to free his leg and advance position but Black is retaining full guard.
Black wants to sweep here but Partio controlling him for the moment.
Black is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Black looking to hit a scissor sweep but Partio is one step ahead there.
Partio might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Partio not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Black is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Black trying to control the action but Partio is working from the bottom.
Black landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Black thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Partio rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Black moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The fighters circling - Black throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Black fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Black has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Black avoids a kick to the body.
A swing and a miss from Black.
Partio on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Black misses with a series of wild punches.
Partio dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Black. That did some damage!
Black misses with a straight left.
Black throws a hook but Partio blocks it.

Partio misses with a takedown attempt
and Black counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Partio has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Partio there as he acknowledges the shot.
Black circles away from the clinch attempt.
Partio lands a head shot.
Black shoots in for a double leg but Partio sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Partio on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Black. Black obviously looking to wear him down.
Nice takedown defense from Partio. No joy for Black on that attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Black. Those never looked like landing.
Black drops his hands momentarily and Partio takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Partio is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Black's half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Black slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Partio is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Black is trying to keep Partio in close.
Partio slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Black manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Partio manages to get himself to full guard.

Black is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Black accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Black throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Partio works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Partio looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Black throws an elbow that misses. Partio uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Black's guard. Nice move by Partio!
Partio really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Partio avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Partio stands up over Black, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Partio got a little sloppy there for a moment and Black has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Partio has managed to get both his arms back between Black's legs - danger averted.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Black is on top in guard.
Black content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Partio has locked up a guillotine! Partio's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Black is holding on here and Partio must be using up a lot of energy. Black has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Partio gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
