Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between JD Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Earl Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JD Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Earl Morris!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morris thows a left - swing and a miss!

Smith is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

That was a close round but I would say that JD Smith will probably get the nod.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Morris can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smith postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Morris is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Smith, into his guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Morris connects with a nice short shot to Smith's temple.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Morris in particular looking to stall.
Smith keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Morris stalling away here and it's allowed Smith to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
