Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dave Rodwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronaldo Palhares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodwell comes into the arena with Pitbull - I know you want me blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Palhares's choice of entrance music: Apaga mais não bate. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Rodwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ronaldo Palhares!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Steve Montenegro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodwell scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
A swing and a miss from Palhares.
Rodwell misses with a double jab.
Palhares needs to keep his hands up - Rodwell had a free shot at his head there.
Some wild striking there from Palhares.
Palhares shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rodwell counters with a stiff right hand.
Palhares tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rodwell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Palhares somewhat.
Rodwell throws a series of punches but Palhares moves out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Rodwell misses the target.
Nice body punch from Rodwell.
Dave Rodwell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Palhares shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rodwell is trying to defend but Palhares finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Rodwell is looking to escape.

Palhares is working for a kimura but Rodwell is defending it quite comfortably.
Palhares stops Rodwell from getting back to his feet.
Palhares throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Palhares works his foot free and advances to mount.
Rodwell is trying desperately to improve position.

Rodwell holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Palhares tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Palhares is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Rodwell has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Rodwell!
Palhares looking for a sweep. Not yet Palhares, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodwell trying to control the position from guard on top but Palhares is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Palhares is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rodwell controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rodwell wants to stand but Palhares has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Palhares not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rodwell trying to control but Palhares is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Dave Rodwell wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Palhares takes one to the side of the head.
Sloppy strikes from Palhares. Those never looked like landing.
Rodwell throws a right and a left that Palhares avoids nicely.
Rodwell misses with an uppercut. Palhares saw that one coming.
Palhares tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rodwell rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Palhares moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rodwell throws a hook to the side of Palhares's head but Palhares sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Rodwell cracks Palhares with a good jab.

Rodwell misses with a few strikes there.
Palhares shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rodwell as he jumps to the side.
Dave Rodwell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ronaldo Palhares.
Palhares moves out of range as Rodwell strikes.
Rodwell throws a sloppy head kick and Palhares moves out of range easily.
Dave Rodwell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rodwell stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Rodwell thuds his right hand into Palhares's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Rodwell throws a series of punches but Palhares avoids them all with ease.
Rodwell misses with a series of wild punches.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Palhares shoots in for a takedown but Rodwell shows good takedown defense.
Rodwell throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Rodwell dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rodwell misses with an uppercut. Palhares saw that one coming.
Palhares shoots in looking for a takedown. Rodwell tries to sprawl out of it but Palhares keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rodwell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rodwell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Palhares walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Rodwell misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Palhares.
Rodwell misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rodwell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Palhares fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A telegraphed right hand from Rodwell misses the target.
Rodwell misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Dave Rodwell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rodwell throws a right and a left that Palhares avoids nicely.
Palhares avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rodwell checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Palhares throws a body punch but Rodwell moves out of range.
Rodwell smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Palhares shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Palhares showed some decent athleticism there.
Rodwell is not content to let Palhares control the position.

Palhares is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Rodwell is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ronaldo Palhares!
