PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between ben ahr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel has chosen Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn as his entrance music. Cory Steel will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, ben ahr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cory Steel!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
ahr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Steel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Steel working some strikes from top position.
ahr is breathing heavily.
Steel lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Steel works over ahr with some ground and pound from guard.

ahr is looking for a triangle but Steel pushes his legs off easily.
Steel slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Steel stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Steel fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. ahr sprawls well initially but Steel persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Steel trying to control from half guard but ahr is working away.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Steel wants to work for an arm triangle but ahr is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Steel is taking a breather. ahr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steel is thwarting ahr's attempts to control the position.
Steel is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Steel missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
ahr is looking to escape.
ahr tries to get to full guard but Steel has control of the leg.
Steel perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Steel lands a nice short elbow.
Steel is thwarting ahr's attempts to control the position.
Steel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
ahr is looking to improve his position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Steel in particular looking to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
ahr is trying to get back to full guard.
Steel moves nicely into side control.

Steel is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. ahr knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Steel cracks ahr with a big right hand but ahr just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Steel creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
ahr is not content to let Steel control the position.
Steel is putting a hurting on ahr here, landing some big shots from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Steel works to advance to full mount. ahr defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The referee warns ahr that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
ahr is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Steel tries to control but ahr wriggling away.
Steel has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of ahr's face.
ahr is looking to improve his position but Steel isn't that keen on the idea.
Steel lands a big elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
ahr is trying to escape the mount.
ahr swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
ahr tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Steel working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. ahr turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Steel off and cradles ahr's limp body as Steel celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Cory Steel!
