PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Leland Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Ferdinand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palmer's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Annihilator - Fun Palace. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bob Ferdinand was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leland Palmer!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Ferdinand!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palmer misses with an uppercut.
Palmer waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ferdinand.
Palmer scores with the left hand. Ferdinand knows he should have avoided that one.


It looks like Bob Ferdinand has been cut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ferdinand is defended easily by Palmer.
Palmer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Palmer swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Palmer stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Palmer closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ferdinand quickly recovers to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Ferdinand looking for submissions off his back.
Ferdinand is trying to control but Palmer passes into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ferdinand wants to control but Palmer postures up.
Palmer lands an elbow.
Ferdinand tries to improve position but can't.
Palmer wants to control but Ferdinand is keeping him busy.
Palmer sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Ferdinand is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Ferdinand tries to buck Palmer off but Palmer is having none of it.
Ferdinand looking for a sweep but Palmer has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Palmer lands a big elbow.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Palmer wants to control the pace but Ferdinand is squirming around nicely.
Ferdinand gets back to half guard.
Palmer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Palmer stalling away here and it's allowed Ferdinand to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Ferdinand is trying to control the position but Palmer postures up.
Palmer tries to free his leg and advance position but Ferdinand is retaining full guard.
Palmer won't allow Ferdinand to sweep him here.
Ferdinand controls Palmer momentarily but Palmer frees himself.
Ferdinand looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Palmer trying to control the position from guard on top but Ferdinand is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ferdinand working for a triangle but Palmer defends it easily.
Palmer wants to control from the top but Ferdinand keeps moving.
Ferdinand can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Palmer controls the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Palmer. Ferdinand does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ferdinand keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Palmer misses with a hook.
Palmer looks to score with a jab to the body but Ferdinand is just out of range.

The cut above Bob Ferdinand's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Palmer misses with a hook. Ferdinand ducked under it nicely.
Palmer shoots in looking for a takedown. Ferdinand tries to sprawl out of it but Palmer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ferdinand manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Palmer connects with a body shot that sends Ferdinand's belly button to the back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leland Palmer dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Bob Ferdinand's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Palmer throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Ferdinand counters with a single leg into guard. Palmer didn't expect that.
Palmer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ferdinand's guard.
Palmer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ferdinand swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ferdinand looking for subs off his back but Palmer has passed one foot through into half guard.
Ferdinand wants to control but Palmer is keeping busy.
Ferdinand is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ferdinand is refusing to be controlled, as Palmer sits in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Palmer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Ferdinand is trying to control but can't.
Still in half guard, Palmer seems content to control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ferdinand fails with a takedown attempt.
Leland Palmer is winning the standup battle so far.
Palmer connects with a body shot that sends Ferdinand's belly button to the back.
Palmer scores with a hook to the body. Ferdinand takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Palmer throws a body punch but Ferdinand moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ferdinand moves out of range as Palmer strikes.
Ferdinand uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Palmer.
Palmer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Palmer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ferdinand as he avoids it easily.
Palmer lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Decent striking displayed by Palmer there.
Palmer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ferdinand looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Palmer scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.


Bob Ferdinand's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Bob Ferdinand's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Leland Palmer!
Leland Palmer retains his middleweight title!
In his post fight interview, Leland Palmer started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
