PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nintendo Takada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taco Grande (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takada comes to the cage accompanied by Super Mario Bros Theme Soundtrack . I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Nintendo Takada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Taco Grande!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grande takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Grande takes one on the button.
Takada moves forwards but Grande connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Takada misses with a low kick.
Takada takes a swing at Grande's ribcage but misses.
Takada motions for Grande to come forward. Takada throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Takada.
Takada throws out a loose jab but Grande uses good head movement to avoid it.

Takada manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Grande on his heels. He'll look to pass Grande's guard now, I'm sure.
Takada is fighting to break Grande's control of his arms but Grande is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Takada throwing strikes but missing.
Takada postures up.

Takada trying to control but Grande is working from the bottom.
Takada keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Grande's head.
Takada won't allow Grande to get back to his feet.

Grande pushes Takada off and gets back to his feet.
Nintendo Takada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Takada works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Takada is looking to take this one to the mat.
Takada can't find room to land a body shot as Grande controls the action.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Grande throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Grande has taken the fight to the clinch.
Grande pushes Takada back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Grande lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Nintendo Takada has been cut.
Grande creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Grande connects with a knee to the head.
Takada blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Takada tries to work over Grande's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
A head punch on the inside from Grande fails to land.
Grande misses with a hook to the ribs.

Takada manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Grande wants to get up but he can't break Takada's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Grande controlling from the top position.
Takada tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Takada wants to get back to his feet but Grande is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Taco Grande has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Takada misses with a takedown attempt - Grande sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Grande throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A nice leg kick lands there from Takada.
Takada shoots for a takedown but Grande saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nintendo Takada. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Takada shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Grande napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Grande is looking for a sweep.
Takada throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Takada working away.
Check out the look on Takada's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Takada tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Takada has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Grande is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Takada's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Grande wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nintendo Takada will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Grande tries to clinch there but Takada circles away.
Takada throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
An inside leg kick from Grande misses.
Takada misses the shot to the body.
Takada tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Takada plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Takada keeps the fight on the outside.

Takada shoots in and gets a takedown into Grande's guard.
Grande pulls Takada in close to prevent any damage.
Grande avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Grande is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Grande is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Takada is controlling him.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Taco Grande hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Grande wants to clinch up but Takada keeps it at a distance.
Takada shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Grande eats them both and turns towards Takada to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Grande checks the leg kick.
Takada misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Grande.
Grande tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Takada counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Grande doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Takada ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Takada shoots in but Grande avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A nice leg kick lands there from Takada.
Takada tries to land a front kick but Grande steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Grande fails with an attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Grande looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Takada lands a nice leg kick that just misses Grande's sensitive parts.
A low kick from Takada misses
and Grande makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Grande lands a body punch.

Takada gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Grande pushes Takada off and gets back to his feet.
Takada throws a leg kick but Grande moved away.
Grande is looking to clinch but Takada is avoiding it.
Takada lands a nice looking body shot.
Taco Grande is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A looping hook to the body misses from Takada. Grande does a little dance to reset his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Takada shoots in for a takedown but Grande shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Takada shoots in and drives through. Grande sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nintendo Takada. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Grande ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Takada moves away.
Grande pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Takada is looking to wear down Grande with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Grande closes the distance looking to clinch
and Takada counters with a nice body shot.
Grande avoids the head kick by Takada.
Takada looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Grande is fending him off so far but Takada persists. Nope, Grande circles away and we're back to standing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nintendo Takada will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Grande fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Takada manages to avoid it.
Takada throws the kick towards the body but Grande avoids it.

Grande drives through and clinches with Takada against the cage.

Takada's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

The fight stays on the outside here - Grande looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Grande closes the distance and clinches.
Still in the clinch, Grande scores with a nice short uppercut.
Grande gets through Takada's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Takada wants a takedown.
Grande blocks a body shot from Takada.
Takada is trying to force a seperation but Grande has the dominant position.
Grande lands a left hand that snaps the head of Takada backwards.

Grande lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Takada is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Grande gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Takada jumps guard but Grande turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nintendo Takada. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Grande lands a damaging elbow.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Grande creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Takada's defenses.


Nintendo Takada's cut is getting worse.
Grande misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Takada.
Takada avoids the elbow strike from Grande, against the cage.

Grande lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


Nintendo Takada's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Grande scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Takada tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Grande lands a good knee to the midsection. Takada won't want to take too many of those.
Grande lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Takada is rocked!
Takada takes an elbow to the forehead.
Oh Takada is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Takada misses with a short punch on the inside.
Grande scores with a shoulder strike.
Grande avoiding damage.
Grande softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Grande gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Grande lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Takada to his knees! Grande keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:09 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Taco Grande!
