PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Padlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Padlin!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Liddell looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Liddell trying to control the position from guard on top but Padlin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Padlin looking for a guillotine here but Liddell defends easily.
Liddell trying to move into half guard but instead Padlin has managed to sweep!
Padlin wants to control from the top but Liddell keeps moving.
Liddell wants to sweep here but Padlin controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Padlin gets to his feet - Liddell follows without any prompting.
Liddell scores with a decent looking hook.
Liddell stuffs the takedown attempt from Padlin. Padlin gets slowly back to his feet.
Padlin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Liddell is fending him off so far but Padlin persists. Nope, Liddell circles away and we're back to standing.

Liddell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Padlin struggling a bit here.
Liddell wants to stand but Padlin has his arm trapped.
Liddell content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Padlin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Liddell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Padlin manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Padlin manages to get to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Padlin lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Liddell!
Liddell is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Padlin controlling the position easily from mount.
Liddell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Padlin on the ground.

Padlin stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Padlin closes the distance and clinches up with Liddell, looking for a takedown. Padlin pushes Liddell against the cage but Liddell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Padlin.
Nice uppercut there from Liddell.

Padlin drives through with a takedown into Liddell's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Padlin works over Liddell with some ground and pound from guard.
Padlin advances position into side control!
Padlin takes a little break here. Liddell wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Padlin decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Padlin fails with a takedown attempt.

Padlin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Padlin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Liddell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Padlin.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Padlin dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Liddell won't allow Padlin to sweep him here.
Liddell throwing strikes but missing.
Padlin pulls Liddell in close to prevent any damage.
Liddell wanted to stand there but Padlin had control of the position.
Padlin has Liddell pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Liddell trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Padlin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Liddell is aware though and is defending well.
Padlin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Liddell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Padlin is proving hard to escape from.

Padlin has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Liddell should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Padlin has tightened it up now! Liddell should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
