Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dante Velazquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Venom Vortex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vortex has chosen VOIVOD into the abyss as his entrance music. Dante Velazquez had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velazquez takes one to the side of the head.
Vortex throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Nice straight punches there by Vortex. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Vortex.
Vortex goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Vortex cracks Velazquez with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Vortex bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Velazquez's head backwards.
A jab lands there for Vortex.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vortex throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vortex moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Vortex lands a lovely overhand right.

Venom Vortex seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vortex takes a swing at Velazquez's ribcage but misses.
Vortex avoids the body shot from Velazquez.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vortex is defended easily by Velazquez.

Vortex lands a really nice looking cross but Velazquez seems unphased.
Velazquez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Vortex shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Velazquez eats them both and turns towards Vortex to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

The fighters circling - Vortex throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Horrible takedown by Vortex or perhaps it was just good defense by Velazquez which made him look bad.
Vortex throws a right hand that Velazquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Velazquez also avoids with ease.
Vortex swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Vortex shoots in for a takedown but Velazquez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dante Velazquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Venom Vortex.

Vortex throws a shot from downtown. Velazquez moves away and avoids it.
Vortex is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Velazquez had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Vortex misses with a wild body shot.
Vortex shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Velazquez as he avoids it easily.
Velazquez tries to close the distance and clinch but Vortex swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Vortex moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Vortex throws the left hand but Velazquez avoids the punch easily.
Velazquez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Vortex misses with a few strikes there.

Velazquez moves into the clinch.

Velazquez has clasped his hands together around Vortex's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vortex tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Velazquez easily slips into full mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Velazquez is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Vortex has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Velazquez needs to keep his hands up - Vortex had a free shot at his head there.
Velazquez tries to clinch up but Vortex circles away and keeps his distance.
Vortex misses with a double jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Vortex. Velazquez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Vortex fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Velazquez avoids it really well and circles away.
Vortex scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Vortex is trying to maintain the position but Velazquez is very close to passing his half guard.
Velazquez wants to control but Vortex is keeping him busy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Velazquez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Vortex dodges the ground and pound from Velazquez.
Vortex really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Velazquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Vortex bucks up and tries to throw Velazquez off but instead Velazquez has got his back!

You can see the frustration on Vortex's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Vortex is trying to control his opponent's hands. Eventually Velazquez gets his hands free and sinks in a rear naked choke. For a while it looks like Vortex is going to survive but after struggling valiantly, he eventually has to tap out! Velazquez is your winner!
