Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ilya Sveshnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edvinas Navickas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ilya Sveshnikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edvinas Navickas!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sveshnikov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Navickas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Sveshnikov can't escape the position.
Sveshnikov is trying to reverse the position but instead Navickas has taken his back - oops!
Sveshnikov tries to escape the position.
Navickas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sveshnikov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Navickas is trying to stick to Sveshnikov's back but Sveshnikov is turning into Navickas. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Navickas's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Sveshnikov.

Navickas scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Sveshnikov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Navickas sprawls well. Navickas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sveshnikov gets slowly back to his feet.

Navickas shoots in and drives through. Sveshnikov sprawls well.
Sveshnikov stuffs the takedown.
Navickas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Navickas moves into the clinch successfully.
Navickas is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Navickas is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sveshnikov can't fight it off and eventually Navickas manages to take the fight to the floor. Sveshnikov looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Navickas is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Navickas counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Navickas.

Maybe Sveshnikov would be better served going for some more strikes rather than trying to control so much.

Sveshnikov is breathing heavily.

Navickas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Navickas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sveshnikov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Sveshnikov tries to stall but Navickas uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Sveshnikov blocks an elbow strike.
Sveshnikov looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Navickas is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Sveshnikov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Navickas is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Sveshnikov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sveshnikov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Navickas sprawls well. Navickas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sveshnikov gets slowly back to his feet.
Navickas displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sveshnikov.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Navickas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Navickas slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Edvinas Navickas.
Navickas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Horrible takedown by Sveshnikov or perhaps it was just good defense by Navickas which made him look bad.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Edvinas Navickas hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sveshnikov is defended easily by Navickas.

Sveshnikov dives in and grabs Navickas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Navickas pushes down on Sveshnikov's head and hops out.

Ilya Sveshnikov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sveshnikov is looking to get back to full guard here but Navickas has managed to pass to side control instead.

Edvinas Navickas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Sveshnikov tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Navickas holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Navickas is trying to pull guard but Sveshnikov turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Sveshnikov jumps guard but Navickas stands there with Sveshnikov around his waist. Sveshnikov gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Navickas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sveshnikov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Navickas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sveshnikov doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Navickas.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Edvinas Navickas was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Sveshnikov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Navickas pinned against the cage. Navickas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Sveshnikov wants to clinch but Navickas slips to the side
and Navickas counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Navickas has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Sveshnikov off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Navickas moves into the clinch.

Navickas jumps guard and drags Sveshnikov to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Navickas thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Sveshnikov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Navickas keeping moving, preventing Sveshnikov from controlling successfully.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sveshnikov stopping the sweep attempt from Navickas.
Sveshnikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Navickas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sveshnikov with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ilya Sveshnikov.
Well Navickas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
