These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Starr shoots in and drives through. Avers sprawls well.
Starr shoots for a double leg takedown but Avers sprawls well. He's pushed Starr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Starr tries to clinch there but Avers circles away.
A punch combination from Starr misses.
Avers throws a series of punches but Starr moves out of range.
Starr avoids a punch combination nicely.
Starr fails to land with a series of punches.

and Avers counters with a stiff right hand.
Starr throws a head kick but Avers moves out of range.
Starr thows a body shot but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Avers counters with a left and a right that stings Starr.
Avers closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Patrick Starr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Starr shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Avers counters with a straight right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Starr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Starr circles away from the clinch attempt.

Avers tries to close the distance and clinch but Starr swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A head kick misses from Starr.
Starr is breathing heavily.
Avers avoids the head kick by Starr.
A bone on bone clash there as Avers blocks the leg kick.

Starr closes the distance and clinches.
Starr fails to pull guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Starr gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Starr is posturing up here but Avers has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Starr tries to roll out but it's too tight and Starr has to tap! Slick submission there by Avers!
