Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Lynch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barney Phife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phife has chosen Fernandinho - Mais Alto as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Phil Schofield and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phife will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Phife throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Phife avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Phife connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Phife wants to land a leg kick but Lynch is out of range.
Lynch throws a sloppy head kick and Phife moves out of range easily.
Phife misses with a lunging right hand

and Lynch holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Phife is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Lynch prevents a body shot from Phife.
Lynch has a couple of punches blocked by Phife.
Phife tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Lynch avoids it.
A frustrated look appears on Phife's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Lynch looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Phife stops a takedown attempt from Lynch.

Phife breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Lynch wants to clinch
and Phife cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Lynch tries to clinch up but Phife circles away and keeps his distance.
Lynch doesn't manage to clinch there - Phife circles away.
Phife just misses with a punch to the body.
Phife connects with a crisp jab.
Lynch ducks under a wild hook from Phife.
Phife connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Lynch momentarily.
Lynch tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Phife paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lynch keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Phife throws a head kick but Lynch moves out of range.
Phife misses with a hook. Lynch ducked under it nicely.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Phife. Lynch shrugs it off though.
Lynch blocks a low kick nicely.

Phife uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Lynch throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Phife avoids a punch combination nicely.
Lynch on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Phife fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Lynch on the side of the head.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Lynch is looking to stand up but Phife isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lynch is trying to control the position but Phife postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jamie Lynch wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Phife throws a right and a left that both miss.
Phife moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Phife misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lynch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

A head kick lands from Phife that sends Lynch to the canvas. Lynch tries to scramble back to his feet but Phife brings him back down into side control.


Lynch is rocked!


It looks like Jamie Lynch has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lynch is not content to let Phife control the position.
Oh Lynch is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lynch gets back to half guard.
Well, if Phife is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Lynch seems to have got his legs back now.
Phife wants to pass to mount but Lynch is defending the position.

Lynch tries to get to full guard but Phife has control of the leg.
Phife has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

and Lynch counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lynch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Phife pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Phife fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lynch manages to avoid it.
Phife lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Lynch pushes Phife up against the cage in a clinch.
A short left from Phife.
Phife throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Lynch is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Phife gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lynch lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.


It looks like Barney Phife has been cut.
Lynch gets through Phife's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Phife has Lynch pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Phife pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Lynch tumbling to the mat - Phife dives into Lynch's guard.
Phife postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Lynch has control of Phife's left arm, preventing Phife from doing any damage.

Barney Phife showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Phife cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A very excited looking Barney Phife rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
