PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gully God (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erick Villar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). God comes to the cage accompanied by Mavado - Gangsta Nuh Play. Villar is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Kalamidad. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gully God!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Erick Villar!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Villar throws a body punch but God moves out of range.
Sloppy strikes from God. Those never looked like landing.
God looks to throw the jab but Villar is out of range.
God lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Villar backs up against the cage.
God lands a nice shot that snaps Villar's head back.
God ducks under a wild hook from Villar.
Villar shoots in and drives through. God sprawls well.
God lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Villar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
God throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
God tries a head kick but it misses.
God throws a sloppy head kick and Villar moves out of range easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
God waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Villar.
Villar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as God sprawls well. God wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Villar gets slowly back to his feet.
Gully God has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erick Villar.
God bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Villar's head.

God rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Villar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Villar closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Villar lands in his opponent's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Villar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. God swivels though and keeps the full guard.
God looking to control.
God is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
God is looking to stall here but Villar recovers full guard.
God sitting in guard here, content to control.

Villar keeping moving, preventing God from controlling successfully.
God stays in close to Villar's body and controls the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gully God wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Villar pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Villar has a takedown stuffed.
Villar misses with a left hand
and God counters with a thumping low kick.
God misses with a jab, cross combination.
Villar shoots in for a takedown but God shows good takedown defense.
God defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Villar.
Villar on the wrong end of a nice jab.
God throws a hook to the side of Villar's head but Villar sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Villar drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
God is looking to regain half guard here but Villar keeps moving and retains side control.
God wants to control but Villar postures up.
Villar working the body and head with strikes.
God manages to get back to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

God is defending against the submission attempts here by Villar.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Villar thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed God's head.

Villar scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Villar throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
God is looking to improve his position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Villar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Villar lands with a punch from half guard.

God pushes Villar off and gets back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
God misses with a head kick.
Villar jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Villar thows a leg kick but God checks it
and God counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gully God dominated that round.
That's time! God's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Villar pivots, looking for a leg kick but God is out of range and Villar settles back down.
Villar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Villar takes one to the chin there.
Villar motions for God to come forward. Villar throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
God misses with a series of wild punches.
God throws a head kick that misses.
Villar dodges the punch combination from God.
Villar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? God is fending him off so far but Villar persists. Nope, God circles away and we're back to standing.
Gully God is winning the standup battle so far.

Villar gets a double leg takedown into God's guard.
God looking for a sweep. Not yet God, not yet.
Villar stands up over God, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Villar drops back looking for a leg! God is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and God manages to kick Villar off! Villar jumps back into God's guard.

Villar thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
God throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
God looking for a sweep. Not yet God, not yet.

Villar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Villar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
God is trying to control the position but Villar postures up.
Villar throws a big right hand that misses.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as God holds on and takes a little breather.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

God is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Villar off and has taken his back!

God controlling the position well here. Villar rolled but God kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Villar looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
God wants to control but Villar is keeping busy.
God just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Will God go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
God lands with a hammerfist to the side of Villar's head.
God wants to control but Villar manages to buck him off and is now in God's guard! Nice work there by Villar!

We're going to have a standup here because Gully God wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Good standup being displayed there by God as he connects with a hook.

Gully God clearly takes that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Villar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around God's waist but God gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Villar off to one side.
Villar drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
A looping hook to the body misses from Villar. God does a little dance to reset his feet.

Villar feints a jab promting God to slip. Villar then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. God slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Villar throws out a loose jab but God uses good head movement to avoid it.
A nice leg kick lands there from God.
God connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Villar momentarily.
Villar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
God looks to land a combination but Villar avoids it well.
Erick Villar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nice shot lands for God.
Villar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by God.
God moves into range and connects with a jab.

Villar is still on wobbly legs! Can God finish him?
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Villar.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Villar gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! God gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

An out of breath Gully God thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
