4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ooga Booga!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diego Mercado!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercado rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Booga moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mercado throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Booga misses with a takedown attempt - Mercado sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mercado throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Booga sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Mercado has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mercado there as he acknowledges the shot.
Mercado fails with an attempt to clinch.
A punch combination from Mercado misses.
Mercado misses with a two punch combination.
Mercado throws the left hand but Booga avoids the punch easily.
Mercado shoots in for a double leg but Booga sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Diego Mercado seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Booga tries to clinch up.
Mercado throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mercado tries to bum rush Booga with a series of wild strikes but Booga uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
No joy there for Mercado, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mercado doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Booga counter with a right hand.

Mercado throws a lazy head kick
and Booga counters with a one-two to the body.
Mercado keeps the fight on the outside.
Booga tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mercado throws a left and a right that both miss
and Booga counters by clinching up.
Mercado wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mercado has picked Booga up - he's going for a ride! Mercado dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Booga manages to get to full guard.
Booga had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mercado is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Booga Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mercado's back instead.
Mercado has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Booga is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Mercado is defending well though. Booga let's go of the attempt for now.

Mercado is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Booga off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Mercado manages to reverse the position and now he's in Booga's guard. Nice work there by Mercado.
Mercado wants to stand but Booga has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Booga is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Booga has his foot on Mercado's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mercado works his way back into a safe position though.

Mercado wants to stand up but Booga has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Mercado drops an elbow to the side of Booga's head.
Mercado really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Booga. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mercado wants to lay and pray for a moment but Booga keeps working.
Mercado is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Mercado takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Booga regains full guard. Nicely done.
Booga will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mercado closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mercado lands in his opponent's guard.
Mercado wants to get up but he can't break Booga's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Booga wants to sweep here but Mercado controlling him for the moment.

Booga has managed to clinch.
Booga jumps into guard, dragging Mercado to the mat.
Mercado stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Booga swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Booga is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Mercado rolls with it to try and escape but Booga cranks on the arm and Mercado is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
