PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cal Paxton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cal Paxton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wes Ward!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paxton throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ward.
Good standup being displayed there by Paxton as he connects with a hook.
Ward shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Paxton as he jumps to the side.
Paxton lands a leg kick that knocks Ward off balance momentarily.
Ward shoots in looking for a takedown but Paxton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ward's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd cheers as Paxton lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ward doesn't seem phased though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ward looking to pass the guard.
Ward throws a big right hand that misses.
Ward wants to control from the top but Paxton keeps moving.
Ward wants to pass the guard but Paxton is keeping the position.

Paxton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ward is aware though and is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ward with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ward throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Paxton has momentary wrist control but Ward slips an elbow through the middle.
Paxton keeping moving, preventing Ward from controlling successfully.
Ward trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Ward drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Ward seems to have locked his on tight now - Paxton screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Ward, as he picks up the win!
