The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva looks to land a body kick but Gruber moved away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Despite being in the dominant position, Max Gruber just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Silva had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Gruber is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Silva Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Gruber's back instead.

Silva is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gruber gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Gruber has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Silva regains guard immediately.
Gruber would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gruber can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Silva has momentary wrist control but Gruber slips an elbow through the middle.

Gruber is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Silva gets his way!
