Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ray Romundo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thanesh Athithan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Athithan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Romundo counters with a nice low kick that buckles Athithan's knee momentarily.

Romundo has hold of Athithan's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Athithan manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The referee warns Athithan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Romundo is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Athithan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Athithan shrugs it off.

Romundo swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Athithan is now in Romundo's guard. A big mistake from Romundo there, giving up the dominant position!

Athithan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Romundo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Athithan gets tackled into the cage by Romundo. Romundo maintains the clinch.

Romundo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Athithan's guard.

Romundo is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Athithan will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
