The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCall throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
McCall falls off balance throwing a combination

McCall cracks Byrd with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Byrd will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Ian McCall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McCall can do anything to dispel that myth.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
McCall is looking to stand up but Byrd isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
