PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between One Verse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marc Munoz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Munoz has chosen Champions as his entrance music. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, One Verse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marc Munoz!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verse fails with a takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Munoz or perhaps it was just good defense by Verse which made him look bad.
Munoz shoots in and drives through. Verse sprawls well.
Verse throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Munoz's head.
Munoz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Munoz throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Munoz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Verse circles away quickly and effectively.
Verse shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Munoz as he avoids it easily.

Verse drives through and clinches with Munoz against the cage.
Verse lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Verse tries to score a body lock takedown but Munoz shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for One Verse. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Verse breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Verse tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Verse closes the distance and clinches up with Munoz, looking for a takedown. Verse pushes Munoz against the cage but Munoz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Verse keeps the fight on the outside.
Verse changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Munoz tries to avoid it but Verse manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Munoz to the ground. Munoz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Verse is looking to clinch but Munoz is avoiding it.
Verse shoots in looking for a takedown. Munoz tries to sprawl out of it but Verse keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Munoz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Verse is breathing heavily.

Munoz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Verse controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Verse trying to control here.
Munoz is pressing down on Verse's thigh, looking to free his foot. Verse is holding on for now.
Munoz passes to side control.
Munoz trying to control the action but Verse is working from the bottom.
Verse really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Verse regains half guard, as Munoz was trying to land strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Munoz wants to pass to mount but Verse is defending the position.
Verse wants to sweep but Munoz has passed to side control!
Munoz working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Verse tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Munoz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Verse throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Munoz stands up.
Verse buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice sprawl there from Verse as Munoz shoots in.
Verse shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Munoz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Marc Munoz will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Verse moves out of range of the body kick from Munoz.
Munoz thuds a left hand into Verse's body.
Munoz shoots in looking for a takedown. Verse tries to sprawl out of it but Munoz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Verse manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Verse paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Verse has a takedown stuffed.
Munoz shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Munoz fails with the takedown.
Munoz is breathing heavily.
Munoz stuffs the takedown.

Verse takes the fight into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Munoz tries to throw a body punch but Verse avoids it by throwing Munoz back against the cage.
Munoz is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for One Verse. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Verse has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Munoz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Verse keeps control of Munoz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Verse wants to take the fight to the mat but Munoz manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Verse is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Munoz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Verse shoots for a double leg takedown but Munoz sprawls well. He's pushed Verse's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Munoz blocks a head kick by Verse.
Verse tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Munoz paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Verse.

Verse gets caught napping as Munoz dives in and scores a takedown. Verse manages to retain guard.
Munoz showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Verse working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Munoz.
Verse is trying to control the position but Munoz postures up.

Verse is looking for a triangle but Munoz pushes his legs off easily.
Munoz trying to control the position from guard on top but Verse is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Marc Munoz has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Verse swats away the attempt to clinch by Munoz.
One Verse is winning the standup battle so far.
Munoz tries to clinch but Verse moves out of range.

Munoz moves into the clinch successfully.
Verse prevents Munoz from breaking the clinch.
Munoz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Verse has Munoz pressed against the cage, preventing Munoz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Verse has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Munoz uses from the top position.

Verse scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Verse with a lazy takedown attempt
and Munoz counters with a nice body shot.
Verse slaps away a takedown attempt from Munoz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Munoz looks for the body kick but Verse saw that one coming.
One Verse is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Verse scores with a crisp jab that stopped Munoz in his tracks.
Nice sprawl there from Munoz as Verse shoots in.
Munoz is looking to clinch but Verse is avoiding it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Munoz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Munoz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Munoz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marc Munoz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

No luck for Munoz with that takedown attempt.
Munoz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Verse.
Verse shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Munoz pinned against the cage. Munoz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Verse jumps guard but Munoz stands there with Verse around his waist. Verse gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for One Verse. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Verse obliges.
Munoz tries to throw a body punch but Verse avoids it by throwing Munoz back against the cage.

Verse breaks the clinch.
Verse cracks the inside of Munoz's front leg.
Munoz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Verse manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Munoz is looking to clinch.
Munoz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Munoz wants it to stay on the feet.

Munoz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Verse is trying hard to land a takedown here. Munoz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Munoz shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Verse defends it nicely.
Verse dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Munoz. That did some damage!
Verse tries to score a power double leg takedown but Munoz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Verse somewhat.

Verse uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Munoz fails in his attempt to clinch.
Verse misses with a head kick.
Horrible takedown by Munoz or perhaps it was just good defense by Verse which made him look bad.
Munoz on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Verse. Verse obviously looking to wear him down.
Munoz doesn't manage to clinch there - Verse circles away.

Munoz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Verse is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Munoz is controlling him.
Verse will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Verse has Munoz pulled in close to control his posture.

Verse has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Munoz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Verse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Munoz. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to One Verse.
I think Munoz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
