PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Deli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sher Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood comes into a darkened arena with his song building. It's a fight kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Sher Wood has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mauricio Deli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sher Wood!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deli takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Deli shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wood as he avoids it easily.

Deli drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Wood is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Deli tries to free his leg and advance position but Wood is retaining full guard.
Deli trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Deli trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Deli knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wood on the ground.
Wood bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Deli's guard.
Deli seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Deli pushes Wood off and scrambles back to his feet.

A combination from Wood does no damage.
Wood lands with a thumping leg kick.
Deli slips a straight right by Wood.
Deli has a takedown stuffed.

Deli closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Deli takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Wood looking for submissions off his back.
Deli works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Deli with shots to the head and body - Wood looks very uncomfortable down there.
Wood tries to hold on but Deli postures up.
Deli looking to control but Wood is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Deli landing strikes from the mount.

Deli prevents Wood from getting the reversal.
Deli lands a heavy elbow.
Deli pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wood really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Wood tries to hold on but Deli postures up.
Wood is looking to improve his position but Deli isn't that keen on the idea.
Wood is bucking up trying to escape but Deli cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Deli landing strikes from the mount and Wood is in trouble!
Wood is wriggling around trying to escape.
Deli looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Wood swings for the body but Deli moves out of range.
Deli moves out of range of the strikes.
Wood tries for a takedown but Deli sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Deli looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Wood!
Deli lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Wood hang on?
Wood sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Wood is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Deli's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Deli's back!
Wood looking to hold on to the position here but Deli rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Deli is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Deli keeping full guard, as Wood tries to pass.
Wood won't allow Deli to sweep him here.
Wood is fighting to break Deli's control of his arms but Deli is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Wood tries to free his leg and advance position but Deli is retaining full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Deli has control of Wood's left arm, preventing Wood from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mauricio Deli wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Wood fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Deli has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Wood misses with a looping right.
Wood lands with a straight right. Deli didn't see that one coming.
Deli takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Wood turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Deli shoots in looking for a takedown but Wood manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Deli's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Deli throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wood's waist but Wood gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Deli off to one side.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A thudding body kick lands there by Wood!
Deli shoots in for a takedown but Wood shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Deli. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wood slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Wood throws a solid leg kick but Deli takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Wood.
Wood throws a right and a left that Deli avoids nicely.

Wood is looking to chop away at Deli's legs.

Deli dives in and grabs Wood's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wood pushes down on Deli's head and hops out.
Deli takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Deli looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wood is not content to let Deli control the position.

Deli prevents Wood from improving his position.
Deli thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wood's head.
Wood is in trouble now - Deli has advanced to mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A close second round but Sher Wood will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Wood throws a jab but it's blocked by Deli.
Deli slips under a jab from Wood.
Deli avoids the head kick by Wood.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Deli.
A swing and a miss from Wood.
Deli blocks a leg kick.
Wood tries to bum rush Deli with a series of wild strikes but Deli uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Wood slaps away a takedown attempt from Deli, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Deli keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Wood.
Wood shoots in for a takedown but Deli shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Wood defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Deli.

Wood tests Deli's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Deli shoots and misses
and Wood counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Deli fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wood avoids it really well and circles away.
Wood connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Wood lands with a thumping leg kick.
Deli keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Sher Wood seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wood scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Deli misses with a takedown
and Wood counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Wood chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Deli shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wood sprawls well. Wood wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Deli gets slowly back to his feet.
Deli is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Deli shoots in looking for a takedown but Wood manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Deli's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wood misses with a leg kick.
Wood throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Deli on the side of the head.

Deli bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Deli working away.
Deli controls the position.
Wood can't do much from the bottom here.
Deli moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Wood manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Deli looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Wood wants to control but Deli is keeping busy.
Deli wants to take a breather but Wood is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Deli will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Deli changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wood looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Deli remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Wood struggling a bit here.
A lull in the action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wood gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Sher Wood.
I think Wood has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
